Lambretta cylinder kits

Welcome to Mugello.co.uk, this site was created for owners of the Mugello kits to come and swap settings, gain advice, and generally help each other to answer all those questions you have. For those of you not lucky enough to ride a Mugello kitted machine, below is a brief description of the kits, what to expect, and what to do.

By creating an account you will be able to access instructions, settings, and general help and information for your Mugello. The forums are a place for owners to share and swap ideas, settings, questions and help with each other.

The Mugello range of cylinder kits offer excellent performance combined with reliabilty for all engine case sizes. Alloy cylinders, Nicasil lined, high quality pistons, central combustion heads, all combine to make the Mugello an unrivalled cylinder kit for your Lambretta.

Performance is as expected dependant on the set up you use, the beauty of the Mugello range is that they have been designed for both performance and reliability. You can use any thing from a standard 18mm SH carb as fitted on many Lambrettas, right up to much larger carburettors such as 26 & 30mm. Because the Mugello retains the traditional family of port layouts as seen on more conventional Lambretta cylinders, the choice of exhausts is equally large. Standard exhausts, to fully blown performance systems can all be fitted. Where the Mugello differs from almost all other cylinder kits currently on the market, is its construction is entirely of alloy. Along with a light weight piston, the Mugello gives a smooth and comfortable ride, balanced with reliability due to the similarities of expansion and contacting of the cylinder and piston. From the start the Mugello was looked at in terms of what could be offered to the customer, in the end we believe along with the manufacturer we have developed a perfect cylinder kit. In standard format the Mugello cylinder retains all original looks for your Lambretta, whilst on the other hand giving you modern performance. From a standard 186cc set up you can expect from 12 to 14bhp at the rear wheel (remember factory figures are quoted at the flywheel A Factoryt SIL200cc engine produces 8BHP at the rear wheel). By adding a performance exhaust, you could even achieve figures of 17+ bhp. Because the cylinder can be used for all carburettor types down to 18mm, should you wish to gain even more performance this is very easy to achieve. The flow of the inlet can be opened up to its full potential, then along with the large transfer ports and exhaust port, performance from your Lambretta then becomes exciting!

125 / 150 / 175
Case Options

We have many options for the smaller engine cases, the 186cc is the most popular because it gives good smooth reliable power based on many years of design and developement. The 186 makes use of standard stroke and length conrods, so with the use of a good quality GP road race crankshaft your off! The 198cc kit provides more power and speed at the expense of some smoothness. Either kit is ready to be used with a 60mm stroked crankshaft with the change of a cylinder head. This in turn would give you 192, or 205cc respectivly.

200cc
Case Options

The 200cc with its smaller piston is better for acceleration and a smooth ride As with the smaller block kits, the 200cc 66mm can make use of 58 or 60mm stroke crankshafts to give 200 or 206cc respectivly.

Where the 225cc kit scores over its smaller size is that the extra size and weight of the piston makes it ideal for more torque providing a good all round touring machine. The piston comes from the Super Monza design, and quite simply is the best Lambretta piston on the market today.

Mugello Cylinder kit Facts

64, 66 and 72mm kits available

58 or 60mm stroke cranks can be used on the 64 & 66mm kits without modification or packing plates to give even more cc.

All cylinders are Nicasil plated by Giladoni

High quality cast pistons, low expansion rate, light and strong.

All the cylinder heads in the kits are central combustion, and have been computer designed MSV to work at specific rpm peak for port timings.

The heads have been re cast for better heat dissipation with finned area, more central mass to stop head warpage.

Side plug head design has been retained for ease of use on the Lambretta, but the central combustion chamber gives better combustion process over offset standard design

Narrow squish band design helps stop detonation and over heating of piston crown

The narrow squish and low MSV ratio design is excellent for sustained higher rpm running of tuned engines.

The cylinder head casting design also allows for centre plug machining should you wish, although this is for special order only.

The all new cylinder heads are CNC machined, so the new design is replicated each time every time.

The new cylinder heads also have some new forward thinking in them, allowing the next generation of Imola, Mugello, Monza and new high powered kit currently under test, to have extra bolt down design, which should completely eliminate the possibility in the leaking of gasket surfaces.
